Baldy House

Situated in the San Gabriel Mountains, the Baldy House was specifically designed as a small (sub 600 sq. ft.) weekend get-a-way for an Asian American female film director. The site is situated on a steep ravine, which water flows through during the raining season. The design would have to be either a cantilever or a bridge spanning the site. The studio was focused heavily on physical model building instead of digital models.

The final result of the studio was to produce a 1”=1’ scale model with poured concrete foundations. Limited sets of working drawings with details were produced and red lined throughout the entire process. Very conservative structural analysis and sizing were also conducted. Structural models were placed under scale loads in order to test for likely failing points.
